Fantastic Website (19-11-2007 )
To the Nyungah Elders

Thank you very much for your website, with your ideas, opinions, beautiful poems and drawings. It is very hard in Australia to gain access to information about how our Indigenous people feel about many current political, social and even ideological issues. You seem always to be misrepresented in the media, and so for a white person trying to apprehend your perspective, and the perspective of other Indigenous people in Australia, it is very difficult. I really appreciate you posting your viewpoints on issues such as the NT 'emergency intervention'. It is so important for white people like to me consider all perspectives while forming opinions. It doesn't seem like anyone from the NT communities...or any other indigenous community across Australia has been asked by the media about how they feel about this policy, and it makes me angry when many people say to me "It's for their own good." I grew up in an Aboriginal community (Yarrabah, QLD), but since moving to the city, I've lost touch with my friends from the community. As a result, I have no way of easily accessing their opinions about various issues in our country.
A website like yours is such a valuable resource. You need to get your opinions out in the general public to ward off the entrenched cultural ignorance about Aboriginal (and TSI) issues. No matter how well meaning they are, when white people like me advocate for your people, it doesn't ring as true as when you speak out. Please continue your great work!

Best wishes,
