STEAMROLLERING ON PYRTON - Riverland Under Threat 28th September 2004
Government plans for a housing development under Success Hill and extensionof Whiteman Park* onto Pyrton arrived in our letterboxes this week causingthe residents of the area to question the sanity of our electedrepresentatives.
Pyrton, and particularly the area proposed for housing, is a SignificantIndigenous Site registered under the Aboriginal Heritage Act, l972.
An aggressive and lengthy campaign by the previous government to site aprison at this site failed because of this significance. Now Gallopıs mobis poised to begin this wasteful and destructive process all over again.
? They think we donıt care about our riverland.
? They think we wonıt notice that Whiteman Park (who are not bound by thesame rules as CALM regarding development) has been chosen as the managementbody for the remainder of the site.
? They want us to forget about the Community Plan we developed and put tothe Planning Commision, for a Cultural Centre at Pyrton, to share and learnthe real culture of Australia.
? they want us to give up on the vision of Blackfellas and Whitefellasenjoying this place together and accept full steam ahead for development.
If you want to keep the Dream alive, fight for justice, right the wrongs, help solve the problem, or just hear more about this important issue,
be at the Pyrton Carpark on Tuesday, 28th September, at l0am
where Nyungahs and Local residents will meet with representatives from theMinistry of Housing and Works.
